WORK

A New Formula

Finding your way through work and life

What if the way you've been working isn't just inefficient, it's fundamentally misaligned with who you are and what you want your life to be?

WORK: A New Formula offers a practical, human framework for rebuilding your relationship with work from the inside out.

The Problem

Are you stuck in the pinball machine?

For most people, work feels like being bounced around a pinball machine, relentless noise, constant pressure, no sense of direction. You respond to demands rather than design your life. You survive rather than thrive.

The rules of work that shaped us were built for a different world. Many of us inherited a view of work as something you endure, something you do to put food on the table, to be acceptable, to be safe. That invisible burden follows us everywhere.

This book invites you to question it. Not just what you do, but why, and whether it's truly taking you where you want to go.

The New Formula

Work isn't what you do.
It's the exchange you create.

  • Taking full ownership of your work: engaging with purpose and authentic intent, not just going through the motions. Moving from transactional service to genuine contribution.

  • Actively creating and providing real value for others. Identifying your unique talents, packaging them meaningfully, and bringing them to the people who need them most.

  • More than a salary, rewards include growth, balance, impact, connection and purpose. Understanding the full spectrum of what you need to sustain and energise you.

  • The bigger picture. What kind of daily rhythms, relationships, environment and legacy do you want? Your work should serve your life, not consume it.

Who This Book Is For

You'll find yourself on every page if…

  • You feel like work is happening to you, not being shaped by you

  • You've achieved the milestones, but something still feels missing

  • You're building something new - a business, a career change, a second chapter

  • You've experienced a major life disruption and are rebuilding your relationship with work

  • You want work that energises you rather than drains you

  • You sense there's a deeper calling you haven't fully answered yet

About the Author

Matt Goddard

Matt Goddard writes from lived experience. Diagnosed with a health condition, Matt spent years pushing himself harder and harder, building financial reserves to protect his family against an uncertain future. He worked beyond his limits. He nearly burned out.

When redundancy arrived in 2013, it became the catalyst for entrepreneurship and a fundamentally new way of working, which forced him to ask the questions this book answers.

Today, Matt leads Thirty-Six Twenty-Six, a transformation consultancy working with leaders on the invisible architecture of their organisations. His firm's name, drawn from Ezekiel 36:26, reflects his belief that lasting change begins from the inside out.

WORK: A New Formula is his first book.
